The Samsung Galaxy S II has begun a successful run, it seems. First statistics have revealed that around 120,000 handsets have already been sold in South Korea – in just three days, that is! Now, that’s what we call amazing numbers.
The first 72 hours of sales saw 65,000 units changing hands through SK Telecom, another 45,000 units through KT Corp and 15,000 units through LG Uplus. The sales rate of the Galaxy S II has clobbered the standards set by the Apple iPhone, when they launched the iPhone in Korean soil.
Samsung had 200,000 units pre-ordered. Interestingly, Apple’s iPhone had only half as many pre-orders. But of course, we shouldn’t forget that Samsung is playing with a home field advantage.
However, that hasn’t stopped Samsung from setting high hopes for its global sales. The company expects to achieve the mark of 10 million units sold globally. But as of now, we can’t give you the exact release dates of the Galaxy S II in the U.S. The smartphone was delayed before and could happen again. However, yesterday we had told you about the device bearing AT&T 3G bands being passed by the FCC. So may be the launch might come soon. Originally, the phone was supposed to be launched in March, 2011.
Seems like the Samsung fans on US shores would have to wait till the end of summer to get their hands on the Galaxy S II. And, we will also be waiting to see Samsung fight it out in the global market. What do you think are Samsung’s chances in making it big globally too?
